History and the World

So John and Dunn and Zach are off on an east coast adventure this week.  Yesterday they flew into BWI and headed off to VA.  En route they stopped by our old stomping grounds and checked out our little house on Peden Street.  Dunn thinks he has shadowy memories of the "hill" behind the duplex there but not really.  John says much as changed on post due to housing privatization and post 911 security surrounding the NSA.

Having gotten the nostalgia for med school days out of their systems it was on to bigger and better things; namely Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens Europe!!  They checked into their hotel yesterday afternoon and as they are staying in a hotel that is part of Colonial Williamsburg they get free passes every day and 50% off special evening performances and interactive events.  Last night they were part of a jury for some hospital trials (Zach was my reporter on the scene so I'm a bit sketchy on the details for this one) and I think they signed up to be part of the court proceedings for a witch trial Saturday night.  Who knew history could be so exciting??

Today they are taking advantage of Busch Gardens "Salute to Soldiers" and enjoying free admission to the theme park.  I'm excited to see how they like it.  It will be the first time either of the boys will have been to a "real" amusement park.

On Sunday they are heading out to spend Memorial weekend in Washington DC.  John got them reservations at the Navy Lodge and they are going to watch President Bush lay the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington as well and spend time at all the monuments/museums etc for a couple of days.

Seems like a great start to a fun filled summer vacation!!!

One of my favorite memories of being out that way was being at Arlington on Memorial Day, very powerful. Another was watching Dunn run down that hill and keep perfect balance!
